Architecture and Urban planning have similar purposes, they both are the art of making and designing spaces that are suitable to satisfy the needs of people. I think that basically the difference between them is that Architecture focuses on designing a building in specific, which means designing in a smaller scale where every detail is very important so the building can communicate information about social, spatial, temporal and other means of ordering of society. On the other hand, Urban planning refers to the designing of cities and towns, it means designing in a larger scale, like for example the organization of groups of buildings, spaces, landscapes and the location where the cities are built.

     I think Caracas hasn't been able to develop a great architecture because of all the problems it has in terms of political, security and economic issues where people only focuse on trying to survive each day however they can. Architects and urban planners are not encouraged to design new buildings with different styles and forms because all the problems mentioned before limit them. It is very hard to design buildings with new materials because you can't find them in Venezuela or it is too expensive to import them. Caracas is very disorganized, it has a lot of traffic everywhere you go, there is no rhythm no harmony, architects design buildings without considering the context where they are constructed.
